Favorite German Towns

I may be leaving Germany, but I am encouraging all of you to come and visit so you can experience yourself the amazing sights, countryside and history Germany has to offer.  I have lived in several areas of Germany and have traveled to many more. From the metropolitan cities to the quaint villages, I have enjoyed them all. Some of my favorite places that I recommend are areas that are close to where I have lived. These include Trier, Bernkastel, and villages along the Mosel River. I also recommend Garmisch for the mountains and beautiful countryside as well as Rothenburg to experience a step back in time within the walled city. It’s never too late to travel to Germany whether you are retired or not!!

Here are a few of my favorite out of the way places that you may want to visit:

Traben Traubach

Bernkastel-Kues

Garmisch

Mosel River Valley

Rothenburg ob der Tauber

Trier

Things I'll Miss

It is the beginning of May and my time as a
DoDDS teacher is nearing the end. As I frantically try to complete all the retirement paper work, pack out my house, teach, and everything else that needs to be done, I have had to remind myself to stop, breathe and take a look around. I still live in Germany! I have had the privilege to see the beauty, culture and many sights this country has to offer. I have enjoyed the fields full of flowers and mountains of snow, the spring green and colorful autumns. I have visited castles and cathedrals that are centuries old.  I have driven 100mph on the autobahn! I have eaten many varieties of schnitzel, black forest cake in the black forest, and gotten fresh bread from the neighborhood bakeries. And I have celebrated many Christmas’ at markets all around the country. I may have lived here for many years, but I still have to pinch myself as a reminder that it has not been a dream. The endless paperwork will not get the best of me!!!
