Snow

While many places get hit hard with snow and freezing rains, in our part of the US,  we  normally get cloudy weather and some light rain.  While winter is the season for snow, we have to improvise and make our own snow to enjoy some of the wonderful activities you can do in the snow.  Thank heavens for creative folks who’ve come up with recipes on Pinterest on snow making!  Check out the recipes below on snow making and some of the classroom activities you can do in the classroom using snow!

You can also find Insta-Snow Powder on Amazon.  Simply add water to the powder and it fluffs up like the real stuff!  Students can sit around in a circle passing the snow around to feel and smell and share descriptive words.
What about throwing snowballs made out of wrinkled paper.  The class can form two teams and throw snowballs at each other.  The team with the most balls thrown can be declared the winner IF they can read all the words written on the balls! Styrofoam balls are a great substitute for the real thing, too!

The following are recipes to make snow!
1 Baking Soda and Hair Conditioner.  Mix a cup of baking soda in a bowl and add in the hair conditioner.
2. Baking Soda and Shaving Cream.  Pour one cup of baking soda in a bowl and add shaving cream slowly until you get the snow consistency you like.

3 Shaving Cream and Corn Starch
Pour one cup of corn starch into a bowl and mix in the shaving cream until you the  right consistency.

4 Corn Starch and White Lotion
Pour one cup of the corn starch into a bowl and add the lotion.
